| Standard Cuts (Kihongiri) 基本切りThe 8 basics cuts are performed as part of the warm-up exercises at the beginning of each class. They are done after the bow-in ceremony. Each cut is repeated ten times. Maintaining proper form is very important. General Notes- Students should be arranged in two staggered lines facing each other so there is no-one directly in-front of them. Alternative is a large circle.
- The class should be arranged going up in seniority in a clockwise direction. The newest student is to the left of the instructor.
- All cuts start in Seagon Kamae
- Students should pay attention to the instructor and emulate them
- The instructor announces the first cut (Jōdan) and this task passes down in rank for each cut.
- The announcer should count in Japanese BEFORE making each cut
